Grandma Hanson arrived today for her first tour of duty with the twins. Josh and I survived our first day home together with the twins - with Abby being at daycare, of course. We even had all five members of the family in the car at the same time, with minimal crying and/or screaming and kicking.
The twins are doing well - they seem to like to alternate good nights and bad nights, along with their older sister. We may try singing "Kumbaya" at 3 a.m. tonight if we're all up again. That, or taking everyone outside to let the neighbors deal with the screaming. We think that Will and Lexi both are weighing in somewhere in the 7 lb. range, based on our estimates with the bathroom scale. We've cut down considerably on the number of times we get peed on during diaper changes, and I've managed to brush my teeth and shower most days since they've been born.
We did have the pleasure of losing half of another Bradford pear tree in the backyard, this time taking a piece of fence with it. More fun in the backyard for Josh, who has also enjoyed some wicked poison ivy on his arms for over a week now.
Thanks for all for the thoughts, prayers, and food. We couldn't do it without you!
Friday we had our 2 week visit to the pediatrician. Lexi was up to 5 lb. 15 oz. and Will was up to 6 lb. 9 oz. The doctor said they should be gaining an ounce a day until they are 4 months old. With the way they are eating and nursing, we're hoping it's more like 2 ounces a day.
We are surviving thanks to our current live in help, my mom and dad, who allow us to take naps or get things done while the babies are being rocked or given bottles. Abby is still handling things well, although we aren't huge fans of the two year old stage, or whatever it is that makes her say "No way" and/or throw her dinner across the back porch. She really likes going to the pool with Grandma and isn't afraid to jump in.
We're really grateful to everyone for your thoughts and prayers, for meals, diapers, clothes, and your support of our family during this "transition".
I know, I know. You want to see photos. We'll try to get mom's pics downloaded some time today.
Lexi's bilirubin levels came back fine today, which is good news. Will had gained an ounce since yesterday, and Lexi had maintained her weight. We go back next Friday to see if they have regained enough to be back at their birth weights.
We managed to get the double stroller working, and are slowly getting used to being the parents of "celebrities" and the stares and questions that come with twins. Big sister is doing well and getting used to having two babies around the house.
We made our first venture out of the house to see the pediatrician. Lexi weighed 5 lb. 4 oz. and Will weighed 6 lbs., so they are hoping to see them back up to their birth weights by the two week mark. The doctor tested Lexi for jaundice, which doesn't need to be treated at this point, but we have to go back tomorrow to have her tested again to see if her bilirubin levels are climbing or not.
We're slowly getting used to be the parents of celebrities - everyone we see wants to know all about the twins. Grandma and Mom managed to go out for lunch afterwards - now we'll just keeping working on everyone getting some sleep, and more photos are to come.
